{"id":32,"date":"2015-01-19T21:03:18","date_gmt":"2015-01-20T02:03:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nvhaacenturions.org\/?page_id=32"},"modified":"2025-09-02T16:39:17","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T20:39:17","slug":"philosophy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/nvhaacenturions.tempbuilds.com\/?page_id=32","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Northern Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association (NVHAA) is an all-volunteer legally incorporated 501(c) (3) non-profit\u00a0organization. \u00a0Established in February 2015, NVHAA provides the organizational, financial, legal, logistical, and administrative support needed for the operation\u00a0of numerous high school homeschool sports teams. NVHAA&#8217;s\u00a0daily operations, policies, and procedures are overseen by a Board of Director&#8217;s who ensure that the teams and all volunteers abide by the NVHAA Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws, as well as the Centurions policies and procedures.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Purpose and Vision:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The NVHAA Centurions was established to provide middle and high school homeschooled young men and women (ages 12-18) the chance to play competitive high school sports in a Christian environment. The NVHAA\u00a0 is a Christ-centered organization that seeks to glorify God (Colossians 3:23) and strengthen the participants Christian values in the context of learning and playing high school sports.<\/p>\n<p>Participation in the program will provide a format for life, teaching young men and women:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To run hard after Jesus (Hebrews 12:1-2)<\/li>\n<li>Competing to win without compromising their Christian values, (1 Corinthians 9:24)<\/li>\n<li>Achievement without an attitude of winning at all costs (1 Corinthians 9:25-27)<\/li>\n<li>Self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7)<\/li>\n<li>Perseverance (Philippians 3:13-14)<\/li>\n<li>Teamwork (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)<\/li>\n<li>A high level of accountability (Colossians 3:22-24)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>The NVHAA Centurions are:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>A Christian-led, homeschool, high school sports organization\u00a0that serves the Lord first.<\/li>\n<li>Sports teams which attempt to play within their\u00a0strength band and engages in competitive sports.<\/li>\n<li>Sports teams that incorporate homeschool parents in the leadership of the team and board of directors.<\/li>\n<li>Sports teams that seek out\u00a0a growing\u00a0network of college scouts and resources.<\/li>\n<li>Sports teams that travel to National Homeschool sports tournaments whenever possible i.e. Florida every November to play in the National Homeschool Football tournament.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>NVHAA Statement of Faith*<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>We believe that there is only one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew%2028:19&amp;version=HCSB\">(Matthew 28:19<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>We believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2%20Timothy%203:16-17&amp;version=HCSB\">(2 Timothy 3:16-17<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>We believe in the deity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His atoning death on the cross and bodily resurrection, in His ascension into Heaven to the right hand of the Father, in His present ministry of intercession for us, and in His return. We believe that Jesus Christ paid the penalty of the sin of mankind of dying on the cross.<\/li>\n<li>We believe in the forgiveness of sins.<\/li>\n<li>We believe in the coming judgment and that those who believe in Jesus will spend eternity in heaven.<\/li>\n<li>We believe God created us male and female and that marriage constitutes the union between one man and one woman.\u00a0(Gen 1:27, Matt 19:4-6, Mark 10:6-9)<\/li>\n<li>We believe in the biological male and female gender of an individual at birth.(Gen 1:27, 5:2)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>MASCOT: \u00a0\u00a0CENTURIONS \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Verse: Matthew 8:5-13\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>The Faith of the Centurion<\/strong><br \/><em><span class=\"text Matt-8-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him,<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-23352\" class=\"text Matt-8-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cLord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-23353\" class=\"text Matt-8-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>And he said to him,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cI will come and heal him.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-23354\" class=\"text Matt-8-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>But the centurion replied, \u201cLord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but\u00a0only say the word, and my servant will be healed.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-23355\" class=\"text Matt-8-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, \u2018Go,\u2019 and he goes, and to another, \u2018Come,\u2019 and he comes, and to my servant,<sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-ESV-23355a\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-ESV-23355a&quot; title=&quot;See footnote a&quot;&gt;a&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew%208%3A5-13&amp;version=ESV&amp;interface=print#fen-ESV-23355a\">a<\/a>]<\/sup>\u00a0\u2018Do this,\u2019 and he does it.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-23356\" class=\"text Matt-8-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>When Jesus heard this,\u00a0he marveled and said to those who followed him,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cTruly, I tell you, with\u00a0no one in Israel<sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-ESV-23356b\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-ESV-23356b&quot; title=&quot;See footnote b&quot;&gt;b&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew%208%3A5-13&amp;version=ESV&amp;interface=print#fen-ESV-23356b\">b<\/a>]<\/sup>\u00a0have I found such faith.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-23357\" class=\"text Matt-8-11\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>I tell you,\u00a0many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-23358\" class=\"text Matt-8-12\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>while the sons of the kingdom\u00a0will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place\u00a0there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-23359\" class=\"text Matt-8-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>And to the centurion Jesus said,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cGo; let it be done for you\u00a0as you have believed.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0And the servant was healed at that very moment.<\/span> ESV Bible translation<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>LOGO: \u00a0 \u00a0WREATHED CHI RHO<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Chi Rho is one of the earliest forms of christogram (a monogram or combination of letters that forms an abbreviation for the name of Jesus Christ, traditionally used as a Chri<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-157 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/nvhaacenturions.tempbuilds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Chi-Rho-Laurel-Wreath-Symbol.png\" alt=\"Chi Rho Laurel Wreath Symbol\" width=\"199\" height=\"171\" \/>stian symbol). It is formed by superimposing the first two (capital) letters chi and rho (\u03a7\u03a1) of the Greek word &#8220;\u03a7\u03a1\u0399\u03a3\u03a4\u039f\u03a3&#8221; = Christ in such a way to produce the monogram. Although not technically a Christian cross, the Chi-Rho invokes the crucifixion of Jesus, as well as symbolizing his status as the Christ. The Chi-Rho symbol was used by the Roman emperor Constantine I as part of a military standard.<br \/>According to Lactantius, a Latin historian of North African origins, in the Battle of Milvian Bridge 312 AD, legend holds that Constantine I saw this symbol in the sky along with his entire army and that night had a dream which told him to put a &#8220;heavenly divine symbol&#8221; on the shields of his soldiers. Should he carry this sign into battle, he would be victorious, <strong><em>In Hoc Signo Vinces &#8211; \u201cIn this sign, you will conquer.\u201d<\/em><\/strong> Constantine\u2019s highly outnumbered army won the battle and the Roman Emperor Maxentius drowned in the Tiber River. The battle marked the beginning of Constantine\u2019s conversion to Christianity and his impact as the first Christian emperor in spreading Christianity throughout the Western World.<br \/>The use of a <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-172 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/nvhaacenturions.tempbuilds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/In-Hoc-Signo-Vinces-Verse-e1422046924831-300x171.jpg\" alt=\"In Hoc Signo Vinces - Verse\" width=\"300\" height=\"171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nvhaacenturions.tempbuilds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/In-Hoc-Signo-Vinces-Verse-e1422046924831-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/nvhaacenturions.tempbuilds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/In-Hoc-Signo-Vinces-Verse-e1422046924831-1024x584.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/nvhaacenturions.tempbuilds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/In-Hoc-Signo-Vinces-Verse-e1422046924831.jpg 1472w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>wreath around the Chi-Rho symbolizes the victory of the Resurrection over death, and is an early visual representation of the connection between the Crucifixion of Jesus and his triumphal resurrection.
